There's silence, and stillness. We're in the light of the sun, and the moon around us is in daylight. But we pay no attention to the moon. We're captivated by the incredible, the spectacular earth. Our birthplace stands boldly against the backdrop of darkness. It's a jewel, lost in the sea of space. The magnificence of God’s creation is illuminated in this tiny planet. We look on in silence. Finally I utter to my wife, “Good God Rebecca, if people of the earth could only experience this.”

She’s silent. I feel her empathy for the children starving on the earth’s surface. My thoughts shift back to the old woman along the cobblestone road, the woman who awakened me to the reality of poverty. Rebecca holds me close to her in a loving and tender gesture.
